Mera peak 6421 m. - 13 Days

mera-gel

Climb Mt Meera Peak which is Nepal’s highest permitted climbing peak at the lofty height of 6476m. Boasting an absolutely stunning summit panorama that includes five of the world’s 8000m peaks – Mt Kanchenjunga,  Mt Makalu, Mt Lhotse, Mt Cho Oyo and Mt Everest. Flying into the Khumbu by way of the high altitude airstrip at Lukla allows you time to spend acclimatising in the high and lovely Hinku valley below Mt Mera. Although physically very demanding, the climbing itself is quite technically straightforward, on snow slopes, which rarely exceed 30°. Far and above the most rewarding aspect of a trip to Mera Peak is a chance to venture into an isolated and unspoilt wilderness of massive moraines, glacial lakes and spectacular peaks and also the amazing spectacle of the sunrise on Everest and Kanchenjunga as we slowly ascend to Mira’s triple summits, makes this one of the finest vantage points in Nepal.

Mera Peak offers a panoramic view of Chamlang, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, and Baruntse in the east and the peaks of Cho-Oyu, Ama Dablam and Kangtega to the west. Everest can be viewed to the north over the massive unclimbed south face of Lhotse and the Nuptse/ Lhotse ridge. Under favourable conditions, it is possible to climb the peak and descend back on the same day. Mera Peak is known for the low degree of technical difficulty required to climb it, considering its substantial height. Thus it makes an ideal introduction for those wanting to scale their first Himalayan peak. It is located in a sparsely habituated corner of the Everest region without lodge accommodation, so participants should be comfortable camping in tents for the entire trip. Prior climbing experience is not expected and instruction will be provided. A high level of fitness and mental stamina is required. Expect to be on the move for 3-8 hours each day.
